Juan Hernandez, part of the Youth Prevention Strengthening Families Program, is working with La Feria ISD‘s C.E. Vail Elementary to create a garden for the students to care for, study, and enjoy. Most plants are nectar plants making it a perfect place for butterflies to stop and lay eggs, and students will be able to use their science skills to learn about the importance of the ecosystem.
In addition, students will learn the importance of working towards a positive environment for everyone to enjoy. This leads to an increase of Protective Factors against substance use! Helping youth develop a passion towards something positive helps prevent the use of alcohol and drugs in the future.
