Future” a Resounding Success

“P.A.T.H.: Building a Path to a Better Future” was a 2-day Conference on Thursday,
Oct. 11th and Friday, Oct. 12th at Knapp Medical Center located at 1401 E 8th St in
Weslaco, Texas. The goal of the conference was to increase awareness on the topics
of the opioid threat, the synthetic drug epidemic, assistance for those with substance
use disorders, emerging drug trends, human trafficking, and teen dating violence. Over
110 people were in attendance, representing federal, state, and local law enforcement
as well as healthcare providers and other community partners.

P.A.T.H. was created as a way to unite different agencies doing similar work in the
community, but with different perspectives. The purpose was to bridge a gap between
the prevention community and law enforcement, uniting both to work collaboratively
on proactive prevention approaches for the benefit of our community.

We are grateful for the assistance and support of the different agencies represented
at the conference, as well as the speakers that traveled to share their expertise
with us here in the Rio Grande Valley. We are hoping to continue these types of
training events for our community stakeholders, and eventually make them available
to both parents and youth in our community.
